imageKyren couldn’t get over killing Brogan’s father, even though he did it to save her. The demons of his own past took control, and he left her when she needed him most. In the aftermath of their agonizing breakup, Kyren and Brogan sought healing on very different paths. She moved to a remote island in Maine and started a new life, while he isolated himself on his yacht, and almost drowned in booze and guilt. After three long years, they’re each in a good place. Neither can forget the intense, passionate love they shared, but they’re both sure it’s over for good. Too much time has passed. There’s too much old hurt.

Fate intervenes, however, and places Kyren on Brogan’s doorstep. For both of them, it’s like they were never apart. His body craves hers, and she immediately longs to submit to his magnetism. Brogan is terrified of giving in to their passion. Can he be the man she needs him to be? Will he break her heart again? She’s not the same person she was back then. She’s stronger, and she has a big secret. Has he learned from his own demons? And most importantly, when she comes clean, will he be able to handle the truth?

I received this book from the author through the Goodreads group, For Love of a Book, in exchange for a fair and honest review. So fair and honest is what ye shall receive (as always)…

This is Book Two in the Broken Pieces series, and it takes you on the journey of Brogan and Kyren’s life after the traumatic ending of book one (where Kyren leaves Brogan without a word after he kills her father). Three long years later, fate brings them back together…

I really love this series! In book one, Brogan was a completely different person than what she is in this book. (Click here for my review of Book 1, Broken Pieces) She was cold and distant, and hated any type of affection. I enjoyed watching her grow, not just as a person, but in her relationships too. And Brogan and Kyren’s relationship is very different. It’s like this strange (but super awesome!) chemistry, this electricity, between them that I’ve never seen in a relationship before. They are drawn together like magnets, uncontrollable.

The writing was just ok, but I can see past that issue because the characters and the drama makes up for it. We’re introduced to some new characters in book two that I wish we could have seen more of, like Jake, Brogan’s new man-friend. He was so sweet and I would have liked to have gotten to know him better.

This book started off exciting and was exciting all the way to the very last page. The only thing that really threw me off was that I really wasn’t expecting, or prepared for the story to progress as quickly as it did. It’s a pretty short book for so much story progression. Everything was just kinda thrown at you and took off running. Like, “Think fast!” And then BAM, you’re hit with all this… This “stuff”. (I won’t mention what happens, so as not to spoil it for you!)

But if you’ve read the first book, you HAVE to read this one. I mean, you just have to. The story drew out some emotions that I haven’t felt in a while from reading a book. I literally shed tears during certain scenes, and that usually doesn’t happen to me. The author knew what she was doing when creating this emotional roller coaster. She did a great job!

I’m really looking forward to reading book three in the Broken Pieces series!
