The Book Courtship Tag

A huge thank you to Reg @ she latitude for tagging me for The Book Courtship Tag! I’m hoping to catch up on all these tags/nominations and STAY caught up!

Phase 1: Inital Attraction
  • A book you bought because of the cover

imageAnd I Darken by Kiersten White

Goodreads :: Amazon :: Barnes & Noble

I mean, just look at that cover. Gorgeous, right? Too bad the actual book wasn’t as great as the cover. So disappointed.

Phase 2: First Impressions
  • A book that you got because of the summary

25868918Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye

Goodreads :: Amazon :: Barnes & Noble

Like the heroine of the novel she adores, Jane Steele suffers cruelly at the hands of her aunt and schoolmaster. And like Jane Eyre, they call her wicked – but in her case, she fears the accusation is true. When she flees, she leaves behind the corpses of her tormentors.

A fugitive navigating London’s underbelly, Jane rights wrongs on behalf of the have-nots whilst avoiding the noose. Until an advertisement catches her eye. Her aunt has died and the new master at Highgate House, Mr Thornfield, seeks a governess. Anxious to know if she is Highgate’s true heir, Jane takes the position and is soon caught up in the household’s strange spell. When she falls in love with the mysterious Charles Thornfield, she faces a terrible dilemma: can she possess him – body, soul and secrets – and what if he discovers her murderous past?

This book just sounded really good. And luckily, it stood up to my expectations. Awesome book.

Phase 3: Sweet Talk
  • A book with great writing

22055262A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Goodreads :: Amazon :: Barnes & Noble

OMG, I loved this book!! There’s no way I wouldn’t have continued reading the series after entering this magical world. I’m anxiously awaiting book three!

Phase 5: Late Night Phone Calls
  • A book that kept you up all night

imageThe Paper Swan by Leylah Attar

Goodreads :: Amazon :: Barnes & Noble

So deliciously creepy and strange. I couldn’t put it down. A definite must read.

Phase 6: Always On My Mind
  • A book you could not stop thinking about

26039280Seeing Evil by Jason Parent

I can honestly say I’ve never read a book like this before. It was horrific and gruesome… and totally awesome! This story has stuck in my mind ever since I read it.

  • A book you love because of the way it feels

I mostly read e-books. So I don’t really have a book I love specifically because of the way it feels…

Phase 8: Meeting the Parents
  • A book which you would recommend to your family and friends

21104828The Lake House by Kate Morton

This is such a beautiful, inspiring book with an awesome twist ending. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone of all ages.

  1. I still need to read ADSOM. It’s been on my Kindle for months. I’m so bad at remembering to read it. I swear I add to my TBR every month and then I don’t read it. I have yet to hear a single bad thing. I’m glad you love it. 🙂 I requested an ARC of And I Darken and didn’t get one. I was planning to buy the book at some point until I read so many reviews that it didn’t live up to the hype. I’m glad I waited on that one and didn’t pre-order.

  2. Awesome tag! Love your answers. I just picked up Seeing Evil actually and I can’t wait to start it! And I’ve heard a couple of people say that And I Darken was… well, boring. It’s a shame, because you’re right, it IS a gorgeous cover. And I love the title. *Sigh* The Paper Swan looks good, too. I’m glad that you posted it here, ’cause now I want to check it out. 🙂

  3. Great post. I agree with you, that cover for And I Darken is really beautiful. I need to read Nightingale soon especially after reading your comments about it. It has been on my TBR for sometime now.

  4. Yay, thanks for doing the tag!

    I’m actually the opposite when it comes to And I Darken – I LOVED the book, didn’t like the cover that much. And A Darker Shade of Magic is sooo good, it’s definitely one of those things that I’ll be thinking about for a long time afterwards. ❤

  5. I’ve seen a lot of love for The Darkest Minds lately — that has to go the top of my TBR! I quite enjoyed And I Darken, but not as much as This Savage Song and A Darker Shade of Magic (Schwab is the BEST!). Thanks for the book ideas! These look pretty interesting. 🙂
